Melt & pour tub handling
If an industrial kitchen is unavailable, many customers use an outdoor seafood-style propane burner, which typically includes a large pot secured to the burner for safety. Make sure the pot is large enough to contain the entire block of soap (unless you prefer to cut the block into pieces). Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for any heating equipment you use!
Propane heaters should be used outdoors on a stable, level, non-flammable surface away from buildings, dry grass, or combustibles. Wear heat-resistant gloves and eye protection. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. Never leave the setup unattended. Propane burners produce high heat—control the flame carefully. Melt & pour soap scorches or burns easily above ~140–150°F (60–65°C) and should never boil.
Instructions:
1. Remove the soap from the tub liner:
First place the tub on a clean work surface. Carefully cut or slit the plastic liner (most use a utility knife) starting at the top rim and working down the sides. Peel or pull the plastic liner away from the solid soap block. The block should release as a solid piece. Discard the liner.
2. Heat the whole block (following all manufacturer safety instructions for your equipment) Place the solid soap block into a large, clean stainless-steel pot or stockpot that fits securely on the propane burner. Light the burner and start on the lowest flame possible. Position the pot over the burner. Monitor the temperature with a thermometer (target melting range ~120–135°F / 49–57°C). Stir frequently with a long-handled heat-resistant utensil as the outside melts, working inward to prevent hot spots.
3. Once fully melted, remove from heat. Customize as desired and pour into molds.
Tips:
• Chopping the block into smaller pieces melts faster and more evenly if you prefer.
• Keep heat low and stir often—high-BTU burners can scorch the base quickly if left on high.
• Work in batches if the pot is not large enough for the full block.
